DOH Caraga Empowers Surigao del Norte with Health Promotion Initiatives
 
Surigao City, Surigao del Norte – The Department of Health CHD Caraga conducted a consultative meeting and HPFS Deep Dive on June 22-23, 2023, at the Governor’s Office, Provincial Capitol. The meeting primarily focused on the Health Promotion Playbook Deep Dive: PA4 Smoke and Vape Free Communities in the New Normal, designed to kickstart the implementation of Smoke and Vape Free Communities in Surigao del Norte.
 
The consultative meeting brought together representatives from various offices, including City SB Members, Provincial Legal Office lawyers and staff, DMOs, PHOs, CHOs, and HEPOs. The objective was to capacitate local governments with the necessary tools to comprehend, develop, expand, implement, monitor, and enhance efforts dedicated to promoting health and preventing adverse health outcomes.
 
HPFS Deep DiveDuring the first day of the activity, the DOH reoriented local implementers on health promotion concepts and the Playbook, offering guidance to ensure a successful rollout of Smoke and Vape Free Communities in the province. The meeting facilitated an open and collaborative discussion, enabling participants to clarify any queries and seek assistance in commencing implementation.
 
Furthermore, during the stakeholder’s forum, Dr. Agnes Cullantes, DOH Caraga NCD Cluster Head, delivered a welcome message that emphasized the burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and underscored the significance of addressing risk factors, especially smoking or tobacco use, to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent NCDs. Additionally, Ms. Sunshine Alipayo, the Regional Tobacco Coordinator, provided valuable technical inputs to the local implementers regarding the policy for the implementation of the PA4.
 
On the second day, the participants were treated to an informative session on the Health Promotion Framework Strategy (HPFS) by Ms. Romelyn T. Santos, DOH Caraga Nurse V. Ms. Santos further delved into the Health Promotion Deep Dive, covering five essential modules. Her engaging presentation encompassed topics such as Health Literacy and Healthy Learning Institutions, enlightening attendees on their significance.
 
Subsequently, Ms. Antonette Libot, HPOII, presented an insightful discourse on Healthy Communities, emphasizing the importance of community-wide health initiatives. Ms. Katrina Rose Aquino followed with a comprehensive discussion on promoting health within hospitals, aptly titled “Healthy Hospital.” Ms. Cristel Jhane Rin then took the stage to expound on the Healthy Pilipinas Campaign: PEG 2023, shedding light on the campaign’s objectives and its significance for a healthier nation.
 
To conclude the day, Ms. Sunshine G. Cruz delivered a presentation on Communication Packages for the upcoming month of July. Her informative talk unveiled an array of communication strategies designed to effectively disseminate health promotion messages to the public. ###
