Magdalo Endorses Chiz’s Senatorial Candidacy
The Magdalo Party-list, which is composed of retired personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and their families, the urban poor and the youth, is supporting the Senate comeback bid of Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero for a fresh six-year term come May national elections.

“Definitely po,” former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV told in a press conference in Sorsogon City on Monday when asked if Magdalo is backing Escudero’s Senate return.

“Si Senator Chiz ay kasama sa ticket ni VP Leni. So ang sinusuportahan po ng grupong Magdalo ay iyong sinusuportahan po ni VP Leni (Robredo). So kasama po siya,” said the former Navy officer, one of the founders of Magdalo who is also included in Robredo’s ticket.

Magdalo’s endorsement is the latest addition to the growing list of political groups and officials backing Escduero’s senatorial candidacy under the legislative agenda of empowering local government units and transitioning the country to economic recovery post-pandemic.

Over the weekend, UniTeam vice-presidential candidate and incumbent Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte gave her support for Escudero, a two-termer senator before he was elected governor of Sorsogon province in 2019.

Mayors of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Eastern Samar belonging to the League of Municipalities of the Philippines or LMP, have also assured Escudero, a consistent topnotcher in various independent pre-election surveys, that they are backing his bid to return to the Senate.

Last year, the tandems of Senator Ping Lacson and Senate President Tito Sotto; Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan; and Senator Manny Pacquiao and Rep. Lito Atienza, who are running for president and vice president, respectively, have adopted Escudero in their senatorial slates. #
