ABSTRACT
The study attempted to determine the impact of reading module guide in familiarizing the letter sounds of the kindergarten pupils of Pianing Elementary School in school year 2020-2021. The study used a descriptive research design. There were 64 kinder pupils, 60 parents of the kinder pupils and 2 advisers as respondents in this study. It used a research instrument such as the reading module guide to determine the performance and its impact to the respondents and a pre and post survey for both parent and kindergarten teachers to further determine the impact of it. It used the frequency percent, weighted mean, mean percentage score and p-test as statistical treatments in analyzing the data.
The study shows that the majority of the respondents obtained a very satisfactory level of performance in familiarizing the letter sounds and even learn different pictures of each illustration in the reading material. The greatest impact of the reading material is that the respondent achieves a rating of very satisfactory.
The study also found that 54 out of 64 kinder pupils which is 85% of the respondents as much as the parent and the teacher of these kinder pupils agreed that they gained a lot of learning and found the reading material useful most especially in this time of pandemic. It is useful for the parent and teacher because it would be less hustle for them to buy any other reading materials or gadget to teach their child. The reading material help the respondents gain more learning even we face crisis in this time of pandemic.
Lastly, the study found that reading module guide had a significant effect in familiarizing the letter sounds of the kindergarten pupils. The findings show a positive effect on the reading performance of the pupils since in increase the reading level of each respondent. There was a big difference in the pre-test and post-test even on the numbers of the pupils in the perspective level in the reading module. It is also observed that the strategy used develops a positive emotional outlook in reading and it also provides an opportunity to develop the higher-order thinking skills of each pupil.
The following are the recommendations conceptualized by the researcher; first, the kindergarten pupils should strengthen and develop their interest in familiarizing the letter sound. The use of the reading module as a guide of the parent I teaching the kinder pupils in familiarizing the letter sounds. Next, the kinder pupils should improve their performance in familiarizing the letter sound by always having a re-teaching whenever they did not meet the lesson for that particular day. Lastly, the researcher recommends that the future research should undertake a research similar to the present study to verify the validity of its result.
