DOH Caraga strengthens network on tobacco control

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 5 – With the aim to strengthen the Regional Tobacco Control Network (RTCN) of Caraga region, the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga recently hold a meeting with its different stakeholders’ Anti-Smoking Program point persons.
During the conduct of RTCN’s regular meeting, Sunshine Alipayo of DOH Caraga has re-oriented RTCN members on the network’s objectives, roles and functions.
RTCN was formed with the aim to fully comprehend the severity of tobacco problem in the region and to urgently respond by adopting comprehensive approaches to reduce and subsequently eliminate tobacco as a threat to public.
Tobacco is the most preventable cause of death and diseases, it is also the risk factor in non-communicable disease.
The RTCN Caraga is composed of the following: chairman – DOH, co-chairman – Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, secretary – Butuan City Health Office, treasurer – Department of Education, auditor – Civil Service Commission, PIO – Philippine Information Agency, other members include, Northeastern Mindanao Mission, Butuan City Tourism Office, Philippine National Police, Agusan del Norte Provincial Health Office, Agusan del Sur Provincial Health Office, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philhealth, and DOH Bloomberg Initiative Project OC400A.
