SJIT Graduate School sponsors Adopt-A-Pupil Project

BUTUAN CITY — Bit-os Elementary School in partnership with the Saint Joseph Institute of Technology (SJIT) Graduate School launched the Adopt-A-Pupil Project in response to DepEd’s Adopt-A-School Program on December 23, 2016 in Bit-os ES Multi-Purpose Hall.

As part of their corporate social responsibility, SJIT Graduate School sponsored 30 pupil beneficiaries from grade-IV to grade-VI pupils who are less fortunate in terms of financial capacities and are not 4P’s beneficiaries.  These 30 pupils will be free from their financial obligations of the school in terms of their authorized contributions.

The said activity was highlighted with the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) which was spearheaded by the Dr. Clara D. Almendralejo, dean of the graduate school, Dr. Jonas H. Jomonong, school principal II, Hon.Victor P. Carampatana, punong barangay, Hon. Raul Bitoon, Kagawad in-charge of education with the presence of Dr. Aida Abad, CES Coordinator, Ms. Rebecca Montante, GSSO President, Dr. Elizabeth Baguio and Dr. Elena Paulma, SJIT professors and some graduate school students.

Furthermore, a check worth 9, 000.00 was turned over directly to the school as full payment of the authorized fees of the 30 beneficiaries amounting to 300.00 per pupil.  This is to address the pressing financial needs of these pupils and give them the motivation to go to school regularly without thinking their school’s financial obligations. It was followed by giving of gifts to all pupil beneficiaries and their parents.

Dr. Almendralejo also emphasized that each parent of the 30 pupil beneficiaries should have a sustainable backyard garden in their homes as their source of food.  “Your garden will be evaluated and monitored quarterly aside from your children’s academic performance as a way of ensuring the sustainability of the project,” she said.  This is the basic requirement for the continued availment of the project.

Hon. Carampatana also pledged to allocate a portion of vacant lot for them to cultivate as their backyard garden since the common problem of the barangay is the type of soil where most of the plants do not thrive for long.  “This is to ensure also that your role as parents in providing fresh and healthy vegetables to your children is maintained’’, he emphasized.

The Adopt-A-School Program provides a structured pathway of partnership between the school and the community.  Bit-os ES is very fortunate enough to be chosen as the recipient school of the Adopt-A-Pupil Project of SJIT Graduate School. This project is intended in building relationships with the school as well as the community that supports student success and achievement.  In this collaboration, our partners will work together with the school to determine how to best connect partner resources and interests with the school’s unique needs and diverse culture.

Furthermore, the partnership with the SJIT Graduate School is embedded in RA 8525 which offers collaboration in order to realize the spirit of volunteerism as a way of addressing resource needs in providing quality learning environment and instruction to our pupils and in making quality learning experiences more accessible to the widest extent. ## (Dr. Jonas H.
