The Hot Stuff from CES 2017

CES 2017 is where the coolest and hottest gadgets get a chance to take the limelight before hitting the market soon. It’s also an opportunity for technology companies to talk about what the future holds: Improved AI, advanced robotics, smart homes, and list goes on. Here at the Manila Bulletin TechLab, we have monitored the event closely, and while there were thousands of impressive devices on every booth, we had selected the ones that fascinated us.

Finsix Dart

Marketed as the “world’s smallest laptop charger.” The Dart is a 65W laptop charger that is considerably smaller and lighter than the brick chargers that ships off with your laptop. It includes a built-in USB port to charge other mobile devices.

Benjilock

“The key is at your fingertips,” as mentioned by Benjilock, a small lock you can use to secure you locker, bike, your bag, and what’s cool about this is you don’t need to have a key or memorize a code. Benjilock uses a fingerprint scanner to unlock this security device.

Quell

One of the more interesting devices found at CES comes from Quell. A wearable device that stimulates sensory nerves, which blocks chronic pain signals to your body.

Oticon Opn

This is a hearing aid device that allows you to hear what you want to hear even in a noisy environment. You can adjust the speakers of this device to allow you to hear every surrounding or you can use it to focus on one direction. It is designed to pair with an iPhone, so can also use the hearing aid to listen to music from your phone.

Smartcane

We value our senior citizens and we do what we can to help them after all the support they have given us before many of us were even born. They become fragile and find difficulty in walking and we can’t always be there to watch over them, that’s why among the standout devices we saw at CES is the smartcane. It can monitor the senior citizens’ activities and send immediate alerts you via SMS or emails if the cane detects any falls.

Olloclip

Olloclip is a series of lens attachments for your iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, along with the 6s and 6s Plus. From macro photography to having an ultra wide-angled lens to capture landscapes, Olloclip got it all figured out. It’s compatible even to the Otterbox cases.

Immotor Go

We got e-bikes and e-cars popping up here and there. What about e-scooters? This device allows for smoother and faster transportation after getting off the train to cross that long stretch to your office building. The Immotor Go is super slim and easy enough to carry around. It features a modular power source so you can always switch batteries when needed and you can use it to charge other devices like laptops. It has IP65 certified, making it built to withstand a little rain and runs up to 20mph with a 3-wheel stability, making it easy to use for everyone.

Olly

Winner for four CES Awards, Olly is marketed as, “Your robot with personality.” Olly is part of the development for a smart home. It evolves based on your interactions with it and adapts to your personality. Emotech, the company behind Olloy, has promised that Olly is a fast and capable learner for proactive assistance, with a natural flow of interaction.

Dremel 3D

3D printing is starting to become commonplace, bit by bit, and Dremel is taking it a step further, by bringing 3D printing solutions to high schools, universities, and businesses. Dremel’s solutions will involve more flexible and finer prints. And it will ship out with a cloud-based software that supports Chromebook and iPad users.

Mobile Air Cleaner 

If you’re worried about the widespread pollution, look no more, as we found the Mobile Air Cleaner at CES. It’s a small, lightweight device that can be carried around virtually everywhere, even setting it up in your car as you cruise along the heavy traffic jams.
