DepEd supports WWD Day celebration

The Department of Education (DepEd) supports the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) on its annual celebration of Women with Disabilities Day (WWD). The celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation (PP) No. 744, s. 2OO4 titled, Declaring the Last Monday of March of Every Year as Women with Disabilities Day, and PP 759, s. 1996, titled Declaring Every Fourth Week of March as Protection and Gender-Fair Treatment of the Girl Child Week.
This year’s celebration of the 18th Women with disabilities day is anchored on the theme Kababaihang may Kapansanan sa New Normal: Kapantay, Kaisa at Kasama sa Inklusibong Kaunlaran and will commence on March 28, 2022.
The event also coincides with the celebration of National Women’s Month pursuant to PP 224, s. 1988 Declaring the First Week of March of Every Year as Women’s Week and March 8, 1988, and Every Year Thereafter as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day, PP 227, s. 1988 providing for the observance of the month of March as Women’s Role in History Month, and Republic Act (RA) No. 6949, s. 1990 titled, Declaring March 8 of Every Year as a Working Special Holiday to be known as National Women’s Day.
During the WWD celebration, the NCDA and Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), together with DepEd through the External Partnerships Service (EPS) and the Bureau of Learning Delivery (BLD) shall conduct a webinar on 3 E s to Empowerment: Equal Participation to Education, Employment and Election on the said date.
Per DepEd Memorandum No. 018, s. 2022, signed by Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, the webinar aims to orient women with disabilities on their essential role and equal participation to inclusive development in the society; empower the participation of girls and women with disabilities on education; and be aware on the equal rights of women with disabilities in access to education, employment and election participation.
The webinar will be streamed live on DepEd Philippines Facebook Page and DepEd PH YouTube Channel. ###
