Caraga State University seized again its height to a new level as it primes in the response to COVID-19 pandemic challenges through producing its first-ever Innovative Nano cellulose-reinforced facemask.
ย
The Center for Nanoscience and Technology for Research and Entrepreneurship andย the Materials Science and Polymer Chemistry of CSU present its pioneering filter to toughen the filtration ability of an ordinary cloth face mask.
ย
The product is composed of three (3) layers of diverse filters that act synergistically toย make sure operative filtering activity alongside a wide variety of air pollutants present in dust or liquid droplets. Each layer is tactically placed to expand the quality and stringency of the filtering material.
ย
The product also highlights a layer made of Nano cellulose fibers extracted fromย natural sources and is used as an additional filter to potentially trap extremely small particles with micron and submicron sizes. Its fine and tight intertwining fibers may filter very tiny pollutants while allowing enough air to circulate via, with a nano-size size with axial dimension ranging from just a few 10 nm to several microns.
Blocks large particles and liquid. Hence, protecting the other layers from being wet.
Breathable, fibrous microstructure with small pores that secures the attachment of nanocellulose layer.

Ultra-small intertwining fibers that trap very small dust and particles in air and liquid; biocompatible and biodegradable.
ย
In an interview, CSU President Dr. Anthony M. Penaso emphasized that these are justย among the humble contributions of the university and the people behind these noteworthy deeds as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. ###
