The Department of Education (DepEd) has released revised guidelines on the suspension of classes and work in schools during disasters and emergencies. The move aims to safeguard learners, teachers, and non-teaching personnel from potential harm while ensuring that learning remains uninterrupted despite disruptions.

Under the new guidelines, students who miss learning activities due to class suspensions caused by disasters or emergencies—whether natural or human-induced will be given due consideration regarding their attendance and the completion of their learning tasks. Schools are also encouraged to implement alternative learning methods to mitigate the impact of disruptions on students’ education.

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara has directed the immediate enforcement of the revised guidelines following their official publication on the agency’s website. The policy reinforces DepEd’s commitment to the safety and well-being of the education sector while upholding learning continuity during times of crisis.

For more details, stakeholders are encouraged to visit the official DepEd website or contact their respective regional and division offices. ###
