One of the commitments of DepEd under the MATATAG Agenda is to give support to teachers to teach better, the Curriculum and Teaching (CT) Strand, through the Bureau of Learning and Development (BLD), has led to the development of the lesson scripts. With the lesson scripts, the Department of Education is hopeful to support our teaching efforts by ensuring consistency in the delivery of lessons.

The lesson scripts, as essential teaching resources, will aid teachers in the effective implementation of the National Learning Recovery Program, particularly the Catch-Up Fridays, the National Reading Program, and the National Mathematics Program. As these programs are incorporated in the MATATAG Curriculum and are considered critical in addressing learning gaps, DepEd ensures that we give adequate support to teachers in communicating the learning contents that are inherent in these programs.

To ensure the successful implementation of this initiative, there is a need for a comprehensive orientation on the utilization of lesson scripts. This training proposal outlines a district-based orientation that will be conducted simultaneously in two groups, providing a focused and efficient approach to equipping educators with the necessary knowledge and skills.

This half-day activity aimed to equip the participants’ better knowledge and understanding on the utilization of these lesson scripts to be used during Catch-up Fridays, National Reading Program, and National Mathematics Program in the delivery of the learning contents. It shall be conducted on a face-to-face scheme. Lectures shall be used to deliver the content and to achieve the objectives of the activity.

The said orientation aimed to familiarize school leaders and teachers with the guidelines for utilizing lesson scripts in the context of Catch-Up Fridays, the National Reading Program, and the National Mathematics Program as stipulated in DM-CT-2024-248 dated July 19, 2024, enhance teachers’ skills in applying lesson scripts effectively to address learning gaps and improve student outcomes, and provide a platform for educators to collaborate, share best practices, and address challenges related to the implementation of these programs.

The district-based orientation was conducted on July 1, 2024, at La Trinidad Integrated Secondary School.  Dr. Jonas H. Jomonong gave the detailed lecture on the NLC guidelines to guide the schools for the effective implementation.  Furthermore, Ms. Jocelyn A. Carampatana, Principal II, MANES and Ms. Alma E. Bequilla, Principal II, KNHS, also tackled the areas requiring improvement for effective NLC implementation, highlighting the transformative power of collaborative expertise.  Dr. Ma. Dinah D. Abalos, the CID chief provided an in-depth overview of the National Learning Camp. The Chief emphasized the purpose of the NLC, underscoring its significance in enhancing the educational experiences and outcomes for students across the district. This insightful session laid a strong foundation for the subsequent activities of the day. Dr. Jonas H. Jomonong continued the lecture on Monitoring and Evaluation.

In the afternoon, at exactly 1:00pm, breakout discussion followed where the participants engaged in a hands-on walkthrough and simulation exercises aimed at planning and preparing for collaboration expertise. Participants were guided through the NLC lesson formats and designs, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the camp’s structure and educational approach.

Selected teacher participants conducted return demonstrations, showcasing their grasp of the concepts discussed. Additionally, school heads participated in a simulation on collaborative review of instruction, reinforcing the practical application of the strategies learned.

The orientation was a success, fostering a collaborative spirit and equipping educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance student learning experiences through the National Learning Camp. ###
