DPWH hailed champion in Lamdag Balangay Competition 2023
 
On the occasion of the celebration of the Feast Day of Butuan City patron, St. Joseph, on May 19, the Department of Public Works and Highways Butuan City District Engineering Office (BCDEO) emerged the champion of the Lamdag Balangay, a competition of illuminated environmentally friendly balangay floats accompanied by a group of dancers depicting the journey of the people of the old Kingdom of Butuan across the kingdoms of neighboring Asian countries.
 
The float parade was held on the Feast Day, May 19, and was participated in by six (6) competing floats including the entry of the Department of Public Works and Highways Butuan City District Engineering Office (BCDEO).
 
For this year’s theme “Re-imagining the Past, Creating the Future”, BCDEO’s entry depicts a glimpse of a rapid developing future of Butuan City with DPWH playing a vital role as the infrastructure arm of the government implementing its thrust program by providing quality infrastructure such as roads, bridges and buildings that are responsive to the needs of every Butuanon.
 
The Lamdag Balangay competition is one of the various activities of the Balangay Festival, an annual month-long event slated on the month of May initiated by the City of Butuan through the City Tourism Office.
 
For this year, the BCDEO contingent headed by District Engineer Jose Caesar A. Radaza accepted the prize of Php 250,000.00.
 
Over the years, DPWH-BCDEO has been bagging awards and known to be the powerhouse for both Balangay Interpretation and Balangay Float Competitions from 2013 to 2019. With a strong sense of perseverance, this year’s achievement cemented the supremacy of the DPWH in the said competition. ###
