Corruption, weak accountability, and poor governance are all present in the Philippines. This problem in our country is very common, not only Filipinos don’t care about this that much, but they are also not afraid of electing officials that have a questionable background. Here in our country, the political problem is politicians serve themselves rather than the people. It is why the Philippines is slowly developing. It is simple to accuse politicians of corruption. The incompetence of government officials, as well as other societal problems, but the real issue here is the vote of the people, despite the fact that voters do not vote for the right people, nor do they hold politicians to a high standard.
In the face of the system, people feel helpless. They believe they lack sufficient power to select and vote for the best leader. If all they’ve done is collect money from politicians during the election period. They vote for that politician because they believe they can provide them with everything they require simply because they were given a small sum of money (vote buying) during the election period. It sends the wrong message to our elected officials, implying that their government’s work is unimportant and that the winner is only concerned with their campaign performance. Voters say they want to change, but they keep electing the same people to office. They vote for well-known politicians as well as those with a bad track record. They keep voting for people who have little understanding of leadership.
In the first instance, if they had chosen the correct person to be in the government, then maybe there wouldn’t be mistakes and issues in society, thus the issue is with the people, not the politicians. The three branches of government’s division of powers and duties is another topic that most voters are ignorant of. They frequently think that electing a president is equivalent to choosing someone who can move mountains at will.
Overall, there would not be a bad politician if the people chose the right person for the job in the first place. Filipinos should choose the right politicians by looking at their capabilities, experiences, issues, etc. People should be knowledgeable about voting. Educating everyone about politics, and keeping them informed about our country. This way, people can choose the right leader and see our country improve. Let us help one another and our country to survive and grow. ###
