Dumaguete City to host 12TH ASEAN Schools Games

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced through DepEd Memorandum No. 180, s. 2019 the Philippines’ hosting of the 12th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) from November 7 to 15, 2020 in Dumaguete City.
Due to the adverse effects brought about by the COVID-19 Pandemic that has affected the conduct of mass gatherings including various sports events, the 12th ASG was cancelled in 2020 and 2021.
With the concurrence of the ASEAN School Sports council (ASSC), DepEd announces the rescheduling of the conduct of the 12th ASG slated from November 19 to 27, 2022 to be hosted by the local governments of Dumaguete City and the Province of Negros Oriental, in coordination with DepEd Region VII.
The ASG is an annual sports competition among secondary students, organized under the ASSC aimed to provide ASEAN solidarity in the youth through school sports, and opportunities for school-athletes to benchmark their sporting talents and to interact and engage in cultural exchanges within ASEAN.
Aside from the Philippines, the participating countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The sports to be played are Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Sepak Takraw, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Volleyball. The competitions shall be governed by their respective international rules and regulations unless otherwise amended by the organizing committee in compliance with the IATF guidelines with the concurrence of the participating ASSC countries. ###
