The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to showcase the great efforts and contributions of women and girls in adapting, mitigating and responding to the changing planet during the observance of the 2022 International Women’s Day.
The observance is anchored on the theme “Gender Equity today for a Sustainable Tomorrow.”
Per DepEd Memorandum No. 016, s. 2022 issued by Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, the celebration of the International Women’s Day on March 8 will focus on the progress made towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Also, during the event, DepEd is to recognize the extraordinary acts of women, and to stand together, as a united force, to advance gender equality around the world.
In the Philippines, the celebration is based on the following legal bases:
a. Presidential Proclamation No.224 s. 1988 declaring the first week of March each year as Women’s Week and March 8 as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day;
b. Presidential Proclamation No. 227 s. 1988 providing for the observance of the Month of March as Women’s Role in History Month; and
c. Republic Act (RA) 6949 e. 1990 declaring March 8 of every year as National Women’s Day.
To celebrate the 2022 International Women’s Day, the DepEd, through the International Cooperation Office will organize a webinar on March 8, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:30AM via Facebook Live of DepEd PH and DepEd-ICO Facebook Page.
Participants of the said webinar are educators and learners representing different schools, as well as other organizations and education systems from countries around the world. ###
