The Findings of a Research Study After A Decade: Still A Great Contributor for the Farmer’s Sectors
By ANNALIZA A. CHAGAS
A decade ago, an Agricultural Engineering student wishes to help the farmers in terms of marketing their products.
Chagas, Annaliza Anos, from Central Mindanao University, successfully finished her research study that was entitled: “Scrubbing of Ethylene to Delay the Ripening of Banana Using Indigenous Materials” with her adviser Engr. Narciso Virgo.
The objectives of the study were to identify the indigenous materials that delay the ripening of banana and to determine the storage time of banana using indigenous materials in delaying the ripening.
The indigenous materials that were used in the study were leaves of “okra”, “saluyot” and “hagonoy” for the three treatments at three replicates per treatment and three replicates for control. Regression Analysis was used to determine the difference in the storage period of bananas between the treatment and the control.
The result showed that there was a difference of 8 days observed between the samples of the untreated and those samples treated with the different indigenous materials with respect to their storage period.
The result showed an 8 days difference in the storage period between the treated samples and the control until all samples are fully ripen. However, the samples treated with the different indigenous started to have ripen bananas 4 days late compared to the samples in the control.
