DepEd to conduct Summit on the Rights of the child in Education
By DIVINA PAGALAN-ACEDILLA
With the aim to provide a seminal opportunity to discuss the rights-based education (RBE) framework of the Department of Education (DepEd), its newly-created Child Rights in Education Desk and its work, initiatives and efforts of DepEd on child rights, distance and limited face to face education during the COVID-19 pandemic, and opportunities and points for collaboration among stakeholders of child rights in education, the DepEd through the Child Rights in Education Desk will conduct the Third National Summit on the Rights of the Child in Education on November 25 to 26, 2021 via the Zoom online platform.
The Summit is part of the annual celebration of the National Children’s Month, as mandated by Republic Act No. 10661, otherwise known as the National Children’s Month Act, to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 2989. It is also to instill the significance of the CRC in the Filipino consciousness and promote children’s rights.
Also, the Summit embraces a whole-f-school, wholes-of-DepEd, whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach in upholding the rights of the child in education.
The Summit is also an avenue to bring together various stakeholders in education to discuss the multifaceted rights of children and learners not only to accessible and quality basic education but also their rights in education such as the rights to participation, protection against violence, rest and play, non-discrimination, health, among others.
The event is anchored on the theme “Batang May K: Karapatan ng Bata sa Edukasyon, Katuwang ang Lahat sa Pagsulong.” ###
