The Department of Education (DepEd) supports the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines in the observance of Earth Hour 2021 on March 27, 2021, Saturday, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. through digital on-the-night.

Per DepEd Memorandum Order No. 12, s. 2021 issued by Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, DepEd officials and personnel at all governance levels, teachers, parents, and learners are encouraged to participate in the observance through the following activities:

  • switching off or dimming of nonessential lights, including streetlights, signages, key monuments, and nearby public areas during the global lights out event from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 27, 2021; and
  • mobilizing academic institutions to support Earth Hour 2021 by switching off their signage lights or some of the lights in their facilities, as the operations or business will allow.

This year, Earth Hour is asking people to speak up for nature in as many diverse and creative ways as possible.  They are encouraged to join their local Earth Hour events (Likely virtually), share their stories of why nature matters to them, or simply learn more about why climate change and nature loss are the two biggest environmental issues facing the planet today.  A new digital activation will ask people around the world to switch off virtually in solidarity as the hour spreads across the globe. ###
