3,252 Caraga frontline health workers receive Sinovac

BUTUAN CITY — The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Vaccination Roll out in Caraga has already started on March 7, 2021 in Caraga Regional Hospital. As of Mar. 12, 2021, DOH Caraga and 15 other implementing hospitals have already vaccinated a total of 3, 252 frontline health care workers with the CoronaVac or popularly known as Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.
DOH Caraga together with the partner hospitals is strictly monitoring the status of vaccine recipients. As of this time, the record showed a cumulative figure of 314 deferrals or individuals not qualified to be vaccinated during screening following a medical assessment. An example of this is due to high blood pressure during actual vital signs check. These individuals will receive the vaccine once medically cleared.
From the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU), a total of 29 Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) cases have been recorded in the last six days. This is 0.9% compared to the total number of vaccinated individuals. Complaints vary per patient. Out of the 29 AEFIs, 14 complained of body rash or itchiness and headache. Cases were managed accordingly with four admissions wherein three already went home and one who is currently stable and for further workup and management. All discharged AEFI cases reported have recovered.
“We are grateful to all frontline health workers who cooperated with us and participated in this global phenomenon to combat COVID-19. As the priority eligible group and the highest risk in terms of exposure, we must protect you and we thank you for your participation. The range of side effects we are seeing now is the common side effects of the vaccine. All vaccines issued with Emergency Use Authorization or EUA and being deployed in the country are continuously monitored and evaluated to ensure product safety,” DOH Caraga Regional Director Jose R. Llacuna, Jr. said.
DOH Caraga reiterated to all LGUs, implementing units and health facilities to thoroughly monitor their vaccine recipients and firmly follow the standard operating procedures in line with the guidelines set, and this includes medical screening and prompt management of any AEFIs. Likewise, the health agency also recommends to all health care workers who were vaccinated to refer health concerns to their respective health facilities for timely and appropriate action.
