The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to conduct the Second National Summit on the rights of the Child in Education on November 23 to 24, 2020 via the Zoom online platform.

The Summit is anchored on the theme “Isulong! Karapatan ng Bawat Bata sa Edukasyon sa Panahon ng COVID-19.”

Said Summit is part of the annual celebration of the National Children’s month mandated by Republic Act No. 10661, otherwise known as the National Children’s Month Act. It is to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1989, and instill its significance in the Filipino consciousness.

The National Children’s Month is a celebration of the rights of all children in the Philippines. The DepEd celebrates the rights of the children in the context of education, as well as the efforts of the Department and its partners in government, civil society, and the academe to uphold these rights of children through the Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan and other programs, projects, and activities.

The Summit is a highlight activity of DepEd for this year’s National Children’s Month aimed to build on the insights, commitments, and recommendations of the First’s National Summit on the Rights of the Child in Education held in November 2019; reinforce the continuing commitment of the Philippine government, including DepEd, and other stakeholders in upholding children’s right, particularly  rights-based education (RBE) in normal times and during the COVID-19 pandemic; facilitate discussions and elicit recommendation on upholding RBE in normal times and during the COVID-19 pandemic through a whole-of-DepEd, whole-of-government, and whole-of-society approach; and ensure the participation of children in shaping policies and actions pertaining to RBE in normal times and during the COVID-19 pandemic. ###
