The City Government of Butuan has procured additional personal protective equipment and ventilators as part of its strategic plan of action to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the locality.

10,000 pieces of non-medical suits, 4,000 pieces of medical suits, 10,000 goggles, 75,000 N95 masks, 500,000 standard face masks, 75 non-invasive ventilators, and 5 invasive ventilators have arrived, reported the City Procurement Office.

The PPEs and equipment were airlifted to Manila through an AFP plane. Both the AFP and the PNP helped in transporting the said supplies from Manila to Butuan through C130 and C295 planes and cargo trucks.

“We need to balance the health aspect and the socioeconomic aspect of this crisis,” said Mayor Lagnada during the press briefing on Monday.

Earlier, the Mayor emphasized that the LGU has been exerting all efforts to acquire a PCR laboratory for Butuan City and Caraga Region. The city is the first in the region to commence targeted rapid testing, as the LGU has procured 2,000 rapid antibody test kits from China plus another 50,000 test kits.

COVID-19 centers are also operational — STEC for asymptomatic cases, the 24-bed capacity center in Baan Km 3, and the Butuan Medical Center for severe cases with 48-bed capacity. Equipped with the most recent technology, the isolation center for severe cases has negative pressure rooms with filters (clean air/room technology).

The leader in targeted testing in Caraga, Butuan City is also extending assistance to its regional counterparts in acquiring test kits, in keeping with a collective regional effort to intensify mass testing and to contain COVID-19 as one Caraga. ###
