DepEd hosts Climate Change conference

The Department of Education (DepEd) through the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) will host the 3rd National Climate Change Conference with the theme, From Lessons to Actions: Bringing Schools to Communities, Towards Addressing Climate Challenges, on November 18, 2019.
A Climate Action Advocacy Show will also be held on November 19, 2019 at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater), Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The said conference aims to strengthen awareness of the basic education sector on climate change and its effects; increase participation of learners and DepEd personnel in addressing climate change concerns of communities; highlight the need to declare climate emergency and thus call for appropriate action; provide a venue for showcasing innovations on climate change adaptation and mitigation; and facilitate discourse and collaboration among learners, industries, social entrepreneurs, academe, civil society, and other stakeholders.
Also, the conference will showcase policy proposals, advocacy campaigns, and technological innovations of high school students. The show will also highlight the perspective of learners on the climate crisis.
The two events are aimed to strengthen partnership among stakeholders from national government agencies, international and national civil society, industry, and academe to respond to the climate crisis.
Target participants are DepEd DRRM coordinators, regional directors, school’s division superintendents, and central office directors or their representative, public and private school teachers, education resilience working group and education cluster representatives of DRRMS, representatives from NGAs, members of the academe, industry partners, climate action advocates, and DRRM practitioners. ###
