DepEd Southwest district conducts In-Service Training for teachers
BUTUAN CITY — A three-day District Seminar-Workshop on Curriculum Contextualization for Kindergarten and Grade-VI teachers was conducted by the Southwest Butuan District last October 27-29, 2016 at West Central Elementary School here.
The said learning endeavor was actively participated by all teachers of the district together with the school heads and district supervisor. Teachers who attended the division rollout on curriculum contextualization facilitated the entire activity. These were Mrs. Josephine Andebor, Mrs. Leonor Q. Andebor, Mrs. Ma. Flordeliz Maslog, Mrs. Janet F. Salcedo and Mrs. Marry Michelle J. Claro. Various topics were discussed like the art of questioning, differentiated instruction, and contextualization: rationale and basis, definition and process.
After a thorough discussion, crafting, designing and contextualizing of localized materials and activities followed were the participants were required to craft contextualized lesson plans of their choice. The outputs were then presented and critiqued.
The said training was anchored on the regional memorandum no. 298, s. 2016 and division memorandum no. 342, s. 2016. This aims to capacitate teachers on how to contextualize, localize and indigenize curriculum based on local needs relevant to Grades-1-5 learners of the K to 12 program, use authentic materials to accommodate and respect cultural, linguistic, and racial diversity and enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the teachers in using authentic materials and anchor teaching on the context of the learner’s lives. ## (By: Dr. Jonas H.
