DepEd observes Deaf Awareness Week
BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) through the Bureau of Learning Delivery-Student Inclusion Division, in coordination with the Hard of Hearing Group Philippines will lead the 2016 National Observance of the Deaf Awareness Week (DAW).
This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme “ One World for Deaf Inclusion in Society” and will be hosted by the New Vois Association of the Philippines Inc. and the National Council on Disability Affairs.
The celebration aims to raise public awareness and consciousness on deaf persons, and their important role in contributing to nation building.
DepEd encourages public, private and Special Education Centers (SPED) and schools with SPED programs for the deaf to undertake activities like consultative dialogue with deaf/hard of hearing persons’ priority concerns; personality development for the deaf; hearing assessment; products and services fair; skills competition (deaf in toque); and career guidance for he deaf.
The observance is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 829 dated November 8, 1991, entitled “Declaring the Period from November 10 to 16 of Every Year as the Deaf Awareness Week”. (Trinidad T. Sepat, SST-III, ANHS Science Department, DepEd Butuan City Division)
