Bit-os ES conducts INSET on INNOVATING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS for the 21st Century Learners

Instructional materials play a vital role in the teaching and learning process. It is used to improve pupil’s knowledge, abilities, and skills and to monitor their assimilation of information, and contribute to their overall development and upbringing.

Teachers also play critical roles in developing adequate and effective instructional materials to cater the diverse needs of their students. Thus, this activity initiated and managed by Mrs. Joy Carol A. Belarmino, a Teacher III of Bit-os Elementary School, is conducted to encourage them to use their creativity in making their own learning materials which can supplement their instructional needs.
This One-day Inset started with an opening program that welcomed all the participant and settled them the purpose of the said activity. Begun with group activity using the “graphic organizer”, participants actively engaged in making their own output in group collaboration according to their grade levels.
Doctor Jonas H. Jomonong, principal II of Bit-os Elementary School discussed the different types of instructional materials and differentiated the instructional materials used in traditional teaching and digital teaching as the resource speaker invited. He emphasized that, “Traditional teaching is not digital”. Yet he quoted Bill Gates’ statement that says, “Technology is just a tool, in terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is still the most important” which boosted the moral of the participants in the challenging role being the digital immigrants of the learners who are digital natives. Furthermore, he said in his final words that, “No instructional materials, no matter how superior, can take place of an effective teacher.” Thus, each one became inspired to take the challenge.
Mrs. Madelyn A. Malot facilitated the workshop activity on making instructional materials that made them ignited their passion as cognitive builders among the learners by producing outputs of instructional materials basing on the K to 12 curriculum by grade level. They presented their outputs with enthusiasm and discussed the uses and objectives in line with it.

The activity ended, with the plans of having weekly schedule on making instructional materials provided with materials from the MOOE to produce attractive usable and durable tools of instructions to be used in each grade level. (Joy Carol A. Belarmino)
